Building a Traditional Door From 150-Year-Old Reclaimed Timber
Welcome back to the finca! This week we're stepping away from the house restoration to build a traditional wooden door frame for the historic building next door, using reclaimed roof timbers that are over 150 years old. Rather than buying new timber, we're recycling original beams salvaged from the building itself, carefully cleaning, machining and preparing them to create a strong, traditional frame that suits the character of the property. In this episode: • Reclaiming 150-year-old roof timbers • Cleaning and preparing historic wood • Cutting traditional rebates for the door • Planing and machining reclaimed timber • Adding a traditional drainage channel to the sill • Assembling the heavy-duty door frame • Preparing everything for the handmade door in the next episode There's something incredibly satisfying about giving old materials a new purpose while preserving the history and character of these beautiful stone buildings. Thank you so much for watching and supporting our restoration journey. We look forward to seeing you in the next episode when we build and hang the traditional wooden door!
