Why Zelensky faces protests in Ukraine | Global News Podcast
Thousands of people across Ukraine have taken part in protests against the government of President Volodymyr Zelensky after the defence minister Mykhaylo Fedorov - a popular young politician who championed Kyiv's pivot to drone warfare - was removed from his post. This comes just days after a violent confrontation in the city of Lviv, where civilians reportedly clashed with draft officers over aggressive military recruitment methods. President Zelensky has been also under pressure to address corruption in Kyiv, after a string of allegations against high-ranking officials. We ask BBC Monitoring's chief analyst Vitaly Shevchenko how much support President Zelensky still enjoys in Ukraine, after more than four years of war - and whether his political career can last beyond the end of the conflict. Ukrainian elections are suspended under martial law, which was declared after Vladimir Putin launched Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022. President Donald Trump has criticised President Zelensky for not holding a vote - accusing him last year of being a dictator. New episodes of the Global News Podcast are published twice a day.
