Spearfishing California’s Central Coast

Today we FINALLY got a chance to get in the water for an epic day of spearfishing in Monterey Bay along California’s Central Coast with fellow spearo Grant Miller. In this adventure, we launched from paddle boards and dove the calm waters of Stillwater Cove near the world-famous Pebble Beach Golf Course. And, we got fairly lucky on visibility, which is key for a successful day under water. Denise had a bit of trouble getting her ears to equalize to handle the pressure, and there wasn't much for fish in the area. But, Doug did get a few good shots on rock fish, greenling and lingcod. Watch as we break down how we prepare for spearfishing in the cold waters of Monterey Bay, the gear we use, and why paddle boards can be an awesome setup for California spearfishing. Along the way, Doug will also talk through how to properly clean, care for, and prepare your catch after the dive. This video also features stunning scenic footage from Big Sur and the Carmel area, showcasing why California’s coastline is one of the most beautiful places in the world for ocean activities, freediving, and spearfishing. Whether you’re new to spearfishing or just love the outdoors, Reef & Ridge is all about helping people enjoy the hunt, choosing the right gear, and learning through real experiences in the mountains and the ocean.
