The poor bore the brunt of the 2008 housing and banking crisis. Today, it's the middle class's turn, and their impoverishment is brutal. In a country where liberalism was established as a creed, there is no safety net for the most vulnerable. The consequences for those who lose their jobs are immediate and dramatic. Larry Dodson, 52, used to run a large customer service department. But two years ago, he lost his job and his home. Today, he lives in a motel room with his wife and two children, surviving on $820 a month by welcoming tourists to Disney World. After paying the motel fees, he has only $70 left for food and other necessities. Terry was a sales manager and enjoyed a good life until he was laid off. He ended up wandering from motel to motel in his car and was eventually deemed "financially unable" to support his six children. The three oldest children were placed in foster care. Currently, 1,800 children live in motels surrounding Disney World. They move from school to school as their parents are forced to constantly change accommodations to find the best price. We spent six months following the daily lives of these families affected by the crisis. This documentary was produced by Babel Press and directed by Philippe Levassour.
