1965 Pinxton construction of the M1 motorway
The film starts with shots of landscaping and drainage for the construction of the M1 motorway next to the village of Pinxton in Derbyshire in Spring 1965. There are shots of housing and buildings being bulldozed. We see Wimpey bulldozers and diggers on the site, groups of people, shots of a nearby colliery and a motorway testing laboratory hut. Later there are shots of bridges being constructed over roads near the village including one on Brookhill Lane. © The Media Archive for Central England
