Philippe D'Orleans - Louis XIV's FLAMBOYANT brother: Video about the king's brother, Philippe de France, son of France, Duke of Anjou at his birth then Duke of Orleans in 1660, also called Philippe d'Orléans, born September 21, 1640 in Saint-Germain-en-Laye and died June 9, 1701 in Château de Saint-Cloud, is a prince of the French royal family, son of Louis XIII and Anne of Austria, and younger brother of King Louis XIV. Titled Duke of Anjou at his birth, he is known by his title of Duke of Orleans from the death of his uncle Gaston de France in 1660 but also under the name of "Monsieur", a title reserved for the King's brother. His direct descendants form the younger branch of Orléans, including his son Louis-Philippe who became King of France at the end of the French Revolution of 1830, and today the Orleanist contenders for the throne of France.
