Louis XV - The PLAYBOY King: Louis XV (Versailles, February 15, 1710 - there, May 10, 1774) reigned as king of France and of Navarre from September 1, 1715 until his death, and was one of the main reasons for the French Revolution. Louis XV ascended the throne when he was four years old and was placed under regency until his age of majority (in 1723) by his great-grand-uncle, Philip II of Orléans. Louis enjoyed a favorable reputation at the beginning of his reign and earned the nickname "le Bien-Aimé" ("the Beloved"). However, Louis XV's inability to cover rising state spending fiscally damaged France's military power, weakened the treasury, discredited the monarchy and partly led to the French Revolution, which broke out 15 years after his death.
