山陽本線電化で残った大型蒸機たち~Big Steam That Survived Sanyo Main Line Electrification

In 1964, the Sanyo Main Line was fully electrified with the electrification of the Yokokawa-Ogori (now Shin-Yamaguchi) section. This marked the completion of the electrification of both the Tokaido and Sanyo lines, a long-cherished dream of the Japanese National Railways. With the opening of the Tokaido Shinkansen in October of the same year, a new era began. Many express trains, including night trains with a transfer at Shin-Osaka, were converted to electric locomotives and hauled by electric locomotives, making "journeys westward," including to Kyushu, even faster and more comfortable. Even so, at the time, C59 and C62 locomotives were used for some passenger trains west of Hiroshima, and D52 locomotives were used alongside electric locomotives for freight. The Kure Line was still entirely steam-hauled. This film captures the delicate moment of this transition. Enjoy the large D52 and C62 steam locomotives and the railway scenery of Hiroshima and Shimonoseki. #railway #rollingstock #train #steam locomotive #C62 #D52 #C59 #D51 #Hayabusa #20 series #Blue train
