I started the journey at Taipei Main Station, heading toward two of the most unique and historic streets in the region: Shiding and Shenkeng. What we’re exploring in this vlog: • Shiding Old Street: This is one of Taiwan’s most authentic spots. Unlike more touristy areas, Shiding feels frozen in time. ◦ What to see: Look for the "Suspended Buildings" (houses built on stilts over the river) and the unique "Centennial Stone House." ◦ The Vibe: It’s quiet, rustic, and famous for its handmade silk noodles (misua). • Shenkeng Old Street: Known far and wide as the "Tofu Capital of Taiwan." You’ll know you’ve arrived when you see the giant century-old maple tree at the entrance. ◦ What to see: Beautiful red-brick architecture and every kind of tofu imaginable—stinky tofu, tofu ice cream, and even tofu cheesecake! ◦ The Vibe: Vibrant and bustling, it’s a paradise for street food lovers. Traveler Information: • Distance from Taipei Main Station: Shenkeng is about 14 km away (approx. 15-20 mins by car/taxi), while Shiding is further into the mountains at about 20-30 km. • How to get there: Take the MRT (Green Line) to Jingmei Station or (Brown Line) to Muzha Station, then hop on Bus 666.
