I’ll Knit If I Want To: Episode 261
Welcome to I’ll Knit (& Spin!) If I want To! I asked y’all to send in some of your questions (from everything from fiber arts, to designing and on!) so I could put together a little video for y’all every Friday doing my best to answer your questions! Sign up for my newsletter here: Sign up for the DRK Newsletter: http://eepurl.com/diPxsr In this week’s episode we cover… 1. Hi Andrea! I just finished the DRK Everyday Cardi, my 3rd sweater of yours, and I absolutely love it! I will be wearing it all the time, thanks for another great pattern! My question is about the collar. Mine does not stand up as much as yours does in the pattern photo. I’m ultimately fine with that because like I said, I love the sweater. I knitted mine with Junction Fiber Mills’ Roots Lite (an absolute delight of a yarn!) so I’m thinking it is just a difference in the type of wool? Do you have advice on choosing a wool based on how you want it to behave when knitted? Thank you!! Good morning Andrea! Thank you, thank you for your tutorials and weekly videos--they're my Friday night exercise bike treat. You have several projects where you hold two strands of yarn together--I love the interesting color and texture interactions that occur with this technique and have done several projects with it. BUT--how do you keep the two strands from twisting together as you knit? I've tried twiddling them backwards a little with my fingers as each stitch is formed. Also, don't know why, pulling the strands out of center-pull balls lying on their sides creates less twist than pulling the yarn straight up). Inevitably though, there quickly comes a time when you have to stop, let it all dangle, and untwist the strands. It breaks up the rhythm! (I've even thought about making a little wooden jig with eye hooks or wearing the kind of finger ring some people use for two-stranded Fair Isle work.) Do you have a better or easier solution? Thank you! / Hi Andrea! This may be a stupid question, but when you are knitting holding two yarns together, do you always have to untwist them from each other? I am knitting a Nebula with a DK weight yarn and a baby suri alpaca held together and am finding that even if I keep them on other sides of my lap, they end up twisting around each other. Any advice you have would be welcome! 3. I was wondering if I could work the short rows in the Poppy sweater after the bobble/eyelet section? That would eliminate the need to elongate the ribbing around the neck and I feel I might prefer that. 4. First-- love your podcast! I listen every week and learn something new each time! I'm an enthusiastic knitter and yarn buyer. I'm not such an enthusiastic yarn organizer! I'm challenging myself to wrangle my yarn this Spring. In researching some options-- I've found the advice to organize first by weight, then type and then color. My question for you-- if I don't have the label how do I know what the weight is? And even if I do have the label--often the weight isn't listed on it. Thanks so much for your help! 5. How to use "GoodNotes" I saw your latest podcast referencing how much you love using Good Notes for your knitting projects and designing. I currently use Knit Companion and would like to learn and try out Good Notes. Would you please share more specific information on how you use it or share any online tutorials or you tube podcasts that would help me get started.
