I’ll Knit If I Want To: Episode 266

Welcome to I’ll Knit (& Spin!) If I want To! I asked y’all to send in some of your questions (from everything from fiber arts, to designing and on!) so I could put together a little video for y’all every Friday doing my best to answer your questions! Check out Thanks, I made it! Here:    • Thanks, I made it!   Sign up for my newsletter here: Sign up for the DRK Newsletter: http://eepurl.com/diPxsr 1. I made socks for my husband last Christmas, and he said every pair of handknit socks he's ever worn slide down, so there's extra space at his toes. I don't have this issue myself and was wondering why he would, and what might be done to address this issue. 2. I have just purchased some Nutiden yarn in a stunning blue fade to cream and want to use it to knit another gorgeous Jaunty. I’m fairly new to Nutiden but understand the fragility and am ready for that. My question is would you recommend knitting with one or two strands? 3. When I knit a sweater with bust darts, I love how it fits me, so I would like to start adding bust darts to patterns even if it doesn't call for it in the pattern. I'm comforable with making those modifications, but I am confused about why adding bust darts in the front doesn't cancel out short rows in the back of the neck? Aren't I just adding wedges of fabric to both the front and back? Can I just omit both the bust darts and the back short rows and get the same fit? Help, I'm befuddled! 4. Hi Andrea! I need your help!! I just cast on the totally tessellated socks and I am so excited to knit them. That said I am a little worried about the afterthought heel. I’m the past the socks I have knit with an afterthought heel have not fit super well and the top of my sock is stretched quite far and looks like the stitches might snap. I think this is because I have a high arch/large instep. I think converting this particular stitch pattern to a heel flap and gusset wouldn’t work so I am wondering if you have any tips for people with high arches/large instep on how to add a bit of extra space in an afterthought heel?? There are so many lovely sock patterns that are easier with this type of heel (your curio pattern for example!) and I don’t want to feel like I can’t knit them. Any advice or help would be so greatly appreciated. 5. Hi Andrea, I'm curious what your tips and tricks are for a selvage edge that is easier to see where you need to either pick up stitches or go into for seaming. I always seem to end up with one large stitch, and one stitch so tiny I can hardly tell there is a stitch there, especially in finer weight yarns like fingering. I know for picking up you don't want to slip the edge stitches because then you don't have enough stitches for a proper pick up ratio. Help me help me!
