In the Netherlands, 20 to 80 percent of people with a mental disorder also suffer from an addiction. It sometimes happens that clients' psychiatric problems are overlooked in addiction treatment. Conversely, mental healthcare providers sometimes lack sufficient understanding of the impact of addiction on other psychiatric problems. VNN collaborates extensively with mental healthcare institutions in the northern Netherlands on dual diagnoses. Together, we expand knowledge about comorbidity and improve its treatment.
