Ernest Meissonier, Meticulous Technique and Celebrated Realism
Jean-Louis-Ernest Meissonier was among the first to champion the small-sized paintings that thrilled his public. Although the Dutch Masters of the golden age would do so as well, yet Meissonier made it his own with a unique personal style and technical brilliance. Today he is once again being appreciated for the workmanship he employed. He began with illustration and secured work from a prominent publisher in Paris, but only as a trial due to his youth but he quickly showed his great talent and rose steadily to the very heights of the art world becoming very rich in the process. He had two very stately homes and in later life became Mayor. His quality remained very high with numerous drawings to his credit, that are marvels and remain much sought after even in a fluctuating art market. Consider helping our channel.
