MV Wearmouth - Progress update December 2024..

Twenty-one months since MV Wearmouth arrived at NELSAM. Work continues to progress, perhaps not as quickly and we would prefer. The wheelhouse frames have been assembled in position giving a more visible sign of how things are taking shape. These images & video have been compiled over the last 3 months or so. Out of site, the work continues in our workshop on many parts that are needed for the refurbishment of a both mechanical and structural nature. The skilled engineering work of stripping engine parts and ancillary equipment is too long to list. Without our full team with an amazing array of skills, we wouldn't have got this far with minimal costs. Our supporters continue to be generous in helping to fund this mammoth task. One of the most important items that was missing when we got Wearmouth was the nut that holds the propeller on! This period we have received some expert help from our introduction to Dave & Neil from Griffith Textile Machines. They have a comprehensive machine shop with a variety of CNC machines, with just the expertise required to make the nut. They kindly offered to make this nut for us. Neil tasked a fourth year apprentice, Anthony to do this. The pictures show what a beautiful piece of engineering it has turned out. Many thanks to all involved. It is so nice to know that donations of expertise like this can be found. This is a charity run 100% by volunteers with the aim of preserving our local maritime heritage.
