The new stadium will have a total project cost of 15.8 billion yen and a seating capacity of approximately 15,000 people. A roof is planned for part of the spectator seating area, and foundation work for the building began in May. Meanwhile, a major sponsor withdrew from the construction project last October. The fundraising for approximately 5 billion yen for construction was temporarily suspended, but in February of this year, Escon, a company headquartered in Tokyo, decided to invest up to 5 billion yen. Everyone I met said it was a treasure of Yamagata. I decided to invest because I felt that if this new stadium concept wasn't realized, Yamagata Prefecture itself would lose its chance to revitalize, and in order to make that treasure shine." Escon's Managing Director, Minoru Nakanishi (Regarding the different scales of Tendo City and Kitahiroshima City, what specific development plans will you be pursuing?): "We haven't finalized the grand design yet, but actually, Kitahiroshima City and Tendo City have similar populations of around 50,000. They're actually quite similar in that they're close to major cities like Sapporo and Sendai. Kitahiroshima City was also empty (until the stadium was built). It was just a field. In a sense, Yamagata also has a lot of vacant land, so there's room for development, which is another similarity." Furthermore, President Aida outlined the team's future goals.
