The J.League has reprimanded both President Kentaro Aida of Montedio Yamagata and the club following inappropriate remarks made by Aida to a local journalist. In February 2014, it came to light that President Aida had intimidated a local newspaper journalist who was covering the construction of a new stadium and made inappropriate remarks. The club subsequently acknowledged the facts and apologized. On the 18th, the J.League announced a reprimand for these inappropriate remarks, requiring both President Aida and the club to submit written explanations and other documents. The J.League stated that the reason for President Aida's punishment was that "the remarks led to social criticism and damaged the credibility of the J.League." Regarding the club, the J.League pointed out that "despite the need for continuous oversight of President Aida's conduct based on past incidents, timely and appropriate fact-finding and corrective actions were not taken after the inappropriate remarks."
