From Broken Stone to Handaxe | Flint River Chert

Some stones don't look promising at all. In this short flint knapping session, I work a small piece of Flint River stone from the USA - the kind of material many people would simply walk past without a second thought. The first strikes reveal encouraging colours and fracture patterns, but things quickly take an unexpected turn when the stone breaks apart far more than intended. With the original plan gone, I have a choice: abandon the project, or adapt. Using hammerstones, abraders and antler soft hammers, I work with what remains and explore what can still be achieved from a limited piece of material. The result is a small butted handaxe and a reminder that even the most unpromising stones can still hold potential. đź”— Watch more flintknapping here:    • Flint Knapping - From First Flake to Maste...   đź”— Explore complete tool builds here:    • Complete Tools Builds - Start to Finish Â
