Best edible plants to forage in July 🌞

Summer is in full swing, and the hedgerows are overflowing with wild flavour! In this video, I take a slow evening walk through the Isle of Wight countryside to introduce some of the edible plants I’m foraging in July—from the cardamom-like seeds of common hogweed and fragrant wild marjoram to unripe walnuts and the intensely aromatic seeds of wild carrot. Along the way, we’ll look at: 🌿 Common hogweed and its delicious green seeds 🌿 How to distinguish common hogweed from giant hogweed 🌿 Wild marjoram 🌿 Woody nightshade - Tomato's toxic cousin 🍅 🌿 Unripe walnuts and the Italian liqueur nocino 🌿 Wild carrot, UK foraging law and responsible harvesting This video also comes with an important warning: several of these plants belong to the carrot family, which contains some of the most poisonous species in Britain. Never eat a wild plant unless you are completely confident in its identification. Cautious foragers live longer. Foraging isn’t necessarily about trying to live entirely from the land. For me, it is about curiosity, movement, learning and discovering flavours that can transform an ordinary meal into something extraordinary.
