⛓️Kettenburg – Vom Adelssitz zum Zuchthaus | Verlassene Wasserburg mit dunkler Geschichte

This abandoned moated castle has witnessed more than its walls suggest. Originally built around 1200 as a late Romanesque moated castle, the complex was repeatedly remodeled over the centuries – from a noble residence with Renaissance halls to a prison with 282 individual cells. From 1861, the castle served as a prison. During the war, it housed convicts, political prisoners, and forced laborers. Some were deported from here. Its use as a prison ended in 1991 – and the castle has stood empty ever since. Today, this place is a silent witness to past power, isolation, and human tragedies. In this video, I'll take you through the remains of this moated castle and tell its story – from the Middle Ages to prison life and decay.
