I Became the Last Guest of this Abandoned Hotel

𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 Hidden in the German countryside stands a massive abandoned hotel that has not welcomed a guest since 2019. 🏨🇩🇪 From the outside, it still looks almost ready to reopen. But inside, the reception desk is empty, room keys are still hanging in place, restaurant tables remain prepared, and guest rooms still contain towels, soaps, glasses, and bottled water. It feels as though the hotel was expecting another arrival... but that arrival never came. Until I checked in. For three nights, we slept inside this abandoned hotel and became its final guests. During the exploration, we uncover its restaurant, kitchens, staff areas, wedding facilities, bedrooms, mold-covered basement, and the tower room at the very top of the building. Old newspapers, farewell messages, documents, and forgotten hospitality details slowly reveal the story of a hotel that had survived several owners, operators, closures, and attempts to begin again. The final operators closed the doors in August 2019, before the COVID pandemic had even reached the hospitality industry. Only seventeen days later, they opened another restaurant nearby, where they continued for five more years before eventually leaving hospitality altogether. Yet this building never found its own new beginning... Why did such a large hotel close so suddenly? And how could so much still be left prepared for guests who would never arrive?
