Nestled among ancient trees on a small island stands an abandoned manor house, often referred to as a castle. Its history dates back to 1328. Ownership changed hands several times over the centuries; the original manor house was demolished and rebuilt in the mid-19th century as a romantic country estate. After World War II, it served as a nursing home until 1997, before falling into disrepair. Most recently, a surgeon attempted to restore the property. However, the work abruptly ended. Inside, we discovered numerous personal belongings—and ultimately, letters that tell of betrayal, infidelity, and a personal tragedy.
