Create Magical Illustrations in Your Art Journal Today

If you like this video, you'll also like this one:    • Inside My Art Journal: A Book of Creative ...   I'm showing some techniques how to integrate illustrations in your art journal spreads. Autumn page Sometimes I'm adding small illustrations on a page that is more like a collection or collage composition. The items on the first page all belong together. I found many of those on a walk and drew them when I was in the forest. The berries, I drew from a picture I made during my walk. Cats in the garden These illustrations I did directly in the book. I was really surprised by this cat scenery when I was planting new plants in my garden, so I wanted to create a page with all these cat friends. Firstly I painted the background with acrylic paint (which I always do), after that I used a black gelpen and Derwent pencils to draw the illustrations. Baskets The next page is based on an assignment that I did with my students who visit my studio weekly. The page on the right is filled with a dominant illustration, with rotan, reed and braids. On the left page I created a collage with sketches that I made of a basket and I did some weaving techniques with burlap. I'll be showing you some student's results! Apple Pie I realize this is more like a painting than an illustration, but I started this one with drawing the cake (after creating the background layer with acrylic). I coloured it with paint and some small parts with Derwent pencils. Magician mini book The front of this book is an illustration mixed with collage techniques and using dried flowers. Inktober challenge: schetsbloktober In my traveler's notebook I did a lot of illustrations. The most of those are from my challenge I held last year. It was wonderful to work on! I mostly drew 4 illustrations on one page and used just 4 or 5 Derwent pencils a time to give myself a little extra challenge. Les Feuilles Mortes I added a small illustration to this collage spread that I called 'Les Feuilles Mortes', after the song (the French original song of 'Autumn Leaves'). I found this one in a ten year old sketchbook and like it's sometimes happening: exactly at the right time, just when I was working on this ochre and red coloured page. I coloured the red leather jacket with acrylics. A wintery scenery or cosy living room in the winter This final page I'll be showing you today is based on the assignment 'create a wintery scene or a warm, cosy living room'. Here, I worked with illustrations that were drawn on loose pieces of paper (I used 300 grams paper) and later on, I glued it on a painted surface. I added purple textile for the curtains and a crocheted coaster for the carpet.
