50+ First time in a RTT - Kareekrans. Bush camping South Africa.
This weekend, we headed off to the beautiful Kareekrans near Rustenburg for a completely different kind of adventure — our very first trip with a rooftop tent! What started as an exciting overlanding getaway quickly turned into a real test of camping life, with heavy rain, muddy roads, and unpredictable weather along the way. Kareekrans is an exclusive bush camp and 4x4 destination, well known for its scenic mountain views, peaceful bushveld atmosphere, and exciting off-road tracks. The venue offers a true escape into nature, with private campsites, great facilities, and some incredible routes for 4x4 enthusiasts looking for both adventure and relaxation. During our stay, we explored the impressive 4x4 trails, which stretch over roughly 10.5 km and range from grade 2 to grade 5 difficulty. Even though the rain limited some of the views during our drive, the experience was still unforgettable, with dramatic landscapes, slippery climbs, and plenty of laughs along the way. This trip was all about stepping out of our comfort zone, trying rooftop camping for the first time, and embracing whatever nature threw at us. From setting up camp in the rain to enjoying peaceful moments around the fire, this weekend reminded us why we love the camping lifestyle so much. If you enjoy bush camping, overlanding, rooftop tents, 4x4 adventures, and discovering hidden gems around South Africa, then this one is for you! 📍 Location: Kareekrans near Rustenburg, South Africa 🚙 4x4 Trails | Bush Camping | Rooftop Tent Adventure 🌧️ Rainy Weather | Overlanding | Outdoor Lifestyle Time stamps 00:14 – Intro 01:25– Packing and getting ready to camp`` 01;33 – Driving out. 01;55 – On the road. 02:55 – In car chat about the upcoming camp. 09:30 – Exploring the Bush Camp 05:13 – Arrival and camp setup. 06:23 – Fire & burger braai. 08:00 –Morning coffee, ablution & campsites. 10:10 – 4x4 route 18:50 – Braai & Linda singing Love of my life. 22:20 –Our overlanding setup 25:10 – Camp breakdown & riving out. 28:18 – Final Thoughts on Kareekrans 29:15 – Goodbye until next time. #overlanding #southafrica #camping
