Me: “Japan Is Cheap.” | A Salaryman’s Ultra-Cheap Weekend Food Crawl

Cheap weekend, full stomach. I’m Hiro—an Osaka salaryman and your chronically tired friend—testing how far a few dollars go in my city: chain “Italian,” park drinks, conveyor-belt sushi, ramen detours, and a $4 museum… all within walking distance. In this vlog I: 🍝 Start at Saizeriya (Japan’s most common “Italian”): red wine ~$0.70, chicken salad ~$2.30, Doria $2, chicken-cheese steak $3.30. Absurd value. 🚇 Wander Umeda: the “Umeda Dungeon” underground, then the new Umekita urban park (yes, you can legally drink in parks here). 🥤 Grab the classic mix juice by Hanshin Umeda Station — was ~$0.60, now ~$1.50 (still worth it). 🍣 Conveyor-belt sushi night: engawa, maguro, sake, plus red miso made from fish trimmings; cleanse with kappamaki. 🍜 Next day, ramen plan: festival too crowded → pivot to Kukai for shio ramen $8; highball $0.33, pork chashu $3. 🏮 Tenma standing-bar math: 3 people, 6 drinks, food = $25 total. 🏛️ Pop into the Osaka Museum of Housing & Living (city-run, $4; kimono rentals for the “samurai” experience). 🥘 Final stop: Yayoi-ken ginger-pork set $6.50. 🏠 Side note: I pay ~$450/month for a tiny place ~20 min on foot from Umeda—Osaka is still livable. Work, trains, cheap food—the usual mix of exhaustion and oddly bright hope. If this slice of real Japan hits you, Like, Subscribe, and tell me: Your city’s best cheap eats (and prices) Saizeriya order I should try next Ramen team: shio, shōyu, or miso?
