Exploring Ungyobong Peak of Hongseong Undap Peak On the morning of June 9, the fields of Hongseong were already colored with the deep color of early summer. Every rice paddy after planting rice, clear water gleamed in the sunlight, and the soft wind gently passed through the fields darkened with green. Another journey has begun to continue the record of Hongseong's untapped peak in the peaceful rural landscape. Destinations for this trip were Ungyobong (328 meters) and Halmibong (365 meters) located in Ungok-ri, Galsan-myeon. Of the 63 peaks in Hongseong, these were 20 unanswered peaks. It was a meaningful hike to visit the peaks that had remained only as their names on the map for a long time, check their appearance, and record them. At 7 a.m., I got on the bus for Galsan at Seosan Terminal. After transferring to the bus toward Gagok from Galsan Bridge, I arrived at the Gagok stop at 8:51 a.m. The early summer rural landscape outside the car window while traveling about 30 kilometers was like a picture. The rice paddies filled with water, the quiet villages, and the green-colored mountainside made the traveler calm. I left the stop and headed to Ungyobong Peak first. As expected, the road was not clear from the top of the field. I carefully navigated between the bushes and the bushes, checking the direction along the GPS track that had been prepared in advance. The traces of the back road were faint, as if it were barely touched by humans, but that made me feel the beauty of pioneering hiking to the unanswered peak deeper. While climbing the ridge, I arrived at the safety leading to Ungyo Peak. However, an unexpected scene unfolded in front of me. Due to quarrying, the mountain slope was cut vertically, and the ridge was severely damaged. The appearance of the once-natural mountain trunk being artificially cut off caused regret. After taking a short breath and looking around, he hung a small ribbon on the branch. Only the silence was felt at the site, where there were huge traces of blasting, and only the early summer sun sank quietly on it. It was a meaningful moment to fill a page in Hongseong's unanswered peak record, even though it looked damaged. Halmibong Peak, which was originally planned, was decided to be postponed to the next opportunity. It was difficult to proceed safely due to the quarry, and it was decided that it was more desirable to promise in the future rather than excessive development. After completing the expedition to Ungyobong Peak, he went on a path to go down in the direction of Gagok by returning to the origin. The view opened coolly when I left the forest and climbed Nameless Peak. Under the early summer sun, I could see the fields and village scenery. After stopping for a while and enjoying the scenery, I flew a drone to take pictures of the mountains and the surrounding scenery from the sky. The view from the sky gave another impression. After the shooting, he continued his journey through the miscellaneous areas. It was not an easy road, but he safely finished the hike and got on the bus to the Galsan Station at 2:55 p.m. He then transferred to an intercity bus to Seosan Terminal at 3:40 p.m. to complete his day's schedule. The journey was 4.7 kilometers and the journey was 5 hours and 2 minutes. Including the distance traveled by bus, the journey amounted to 36 kilometers. It was a short distance, but it was by no means an easy journey as the journey was made by pioneering mountains without roads. Through this visit to Ungyobong Peak, there are only 19 unanswered peaks in Hongseong. Ungyobong Peak is not a high mountain 328m above sea level, but it was a special peak that allowed me to face the reality of gradually losing my original appearance due to quarrying. It was a day when I thought a lot about the traces of a long time the mountain had and the scars left by human development.
