Its isolation provides a protected habitat for many animals: It's an important resting place for migratory birds, a unique breed of sheep lives only here, and fishing off the coast is sustainable. The people respect and value their island, cultivating its unique characteristics and a culture that dates back to the time of the Vikings who once settled here. It's an unusual place, located in Europe yet seemingly far away. On the Isle of Man, professions and traditions have survived that have long since died out elsewhere: The world's oldest horse-drawn tram runs through the capital, and a steam railway has connected the island's cities for 150 years. The Isle of Man's parliament is also the oldest in the world, and is celebrated on its national holiday with horsehair wigs and brass bands. At the same time, the island is a place that offers young people the space to develop new ideas. The film introduces people who have never left the Isle of Man or who have returned because island life brings them contentment and allows them to live in harmony with nature. Here, the clocks tick differently; the inhabitants have a phrase for this in their native Manx language: "Traa-dy-Liooar," or "time enough." The Isle of Man is a place that combines tradition and change and, for precisely this reason, remains true to itself. #wocomoTRAVEL #BritishIsles
