PARCO NAZIONALE VALGRANDE da CROSANE a VELINA SU SENTIERO FANTASMA
VAL GRANDE NATIONAL PARK The connection between Alpe Crosane and Alpe Velina via a ghost trail In this video, we take you on a hike that goes beyond a simple walk: a true historical and naturalistic exploration in the heart of Val Grande, the most authentic wilderness in the Alps. Starting from Cicogna, our destination was Alpe Velina, but we chose to get there by an unusual route, following a "ghost trail" that starts from Alpe Crosane. A path now almost completely reclaimed by nature, where every trace of the past tells a story of toil and survival. Along the way, we made fascinating discoveries: Engraved rocks: ancient writings and dates carved into the stone that seem to mark boundaries or distant memories. Breathtaking geology: crossing an incredible canyon, with smooth rock walls that bear witness to the millennia of water's passage. Evidence of the past: the marks left by wedges used to split rocks, the majestic dry stone walls, and the remains of coal mines. We even found an ancient axe with an archaic and unusual design, a silent witness to an era when iron was a primordial tool of life and work. Symbols of devotion and danger: Above the Rio Val Grande, we found a small wrought-iron cross standing alone on the edge of the rock. It is most likely a votive offering linked to the epic story of timber floating. At this point in the river, the logs tended to get stuck, and the drifters had the arduous task of freeing them with their poles, braving the current. That cross remains there, a memorial to those who risked everything in that dangerous work. Encounters and human warmth: Piero and his four donkeys: our arrival in Velina was made special by these docile mountain companions and Piero's hospitality in Baserga, over coffee and tales of the valley. The return to Cicogna: to end the day, we treated ourselves to a moment of relaxation at the Circolo, welcomed by Federico and Sara, the tireless souls who take care of the hospitality of this historic meeting place. They were joined by Alice, a precious presence at the club, who occasionally puts off her work clothes to follow us, hiking boots on, on our adventures. It was a real pleasure to also meet Gianluca, a friend and mountain running companion, who was enjoying a break with his girlfriend. A journey through forgotten paths and the rugged beauty of a valley that never ceases to amaze. Make yourself comfortable, let the silence envelop you, and... enjoy! We wish you all a happy and peaceful Easter, spent breathing in the blue of our wonderful land.
