Flexor tendons are like cords that connect the forearm muscles to the finger bones. They pass through the carpal tunnel and enter tunnels inside each finger, allowing you to close your hand and bend your fingers. 🔪 How does this type of injury happen? These injuries are very common in everyday life, mainly: • Knife cuts 🔪 (when cutting frozen or hard foods) • Household accidents while washing dishes 🍽️ • Broken glass 🪟 • Professional activities with a risk of cuts • Accidents to the palm of the hand or fingers An important detail: the more superficial the tendon, the greater the risk of it being injured in a seemingly small cut. 🩺 How is a flexor tendon injury diagnosed? The diagnosis is mainly clinical, through a thorough physical examination. We test separately: ✔️ Superficial flexor tendon ✔️ Deep flexor tendon In some specific cases, exams such as ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging can help confirm the diagnosis. ⚠️ Why does treatment need to be fast? When the tendon is cut, one of the parts shortens and separates, making surgery more difficult over time. ⏰ After about 15 days, the success rate of the surgery drops significantly. 👉 Therefore, early diagnosis + surgery at the right time = better recovery. 🔧 What is the treatment like? The treatment is surgical, with specific tendon suture techniques.
