SC Says Election Commission Cannot Decide Citizenship, Seeks Replies From WB Govt And EC

The Supreme Court has sought responses from the West Bengal government and the Election Commission on allegations that people removed from voter lists during the Special Intensive Revision process are being denied welfare benefits, including ration. The court reiterated that the Election Commission can delete names from electoral rolls but cannot determine citizenship. Petitioners claimed nearly 33 lakh appeals have been filed against voter deletions, with only a fraction decided so far.
