An anti-encroachment drive is underway at the office of Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee in Amtala, South 24 Parganas, with authorities alleging the building was constructed illegally. According to administrative sources, the district administration had earlier issued a notice over the alleged unauthorised construction, but no representative appeared before the district council within the stipulated time. Following this, officials initiated demolition proceedings in accordance with government rules. Three bulldozers have been deployed to demolish the five-storey office, while a heavy police presence has been arranged to maintain law and order.
