Pacientes muito autocríticos: o que fazer (e o que não fazer ) na terapia

Highly self-critical patients often arrive at therapy suffering from shame, self-criticism, perfectionism, and a constant feeling of inadequacy. Faced with this suffering, therapists commonly try to help them develop a more compassionate attitude towards themselves. But there's a whole process that comes before that. In this video, I share how Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) understands and works with self-criticism in clinical practice. We discuss the importance of: • Identifying and naming different patterns of self-criticism • Investigating the protective function of these mental processes • Understanding their origins and developmental contexts • Building wisdom about the workings of the human mind • Developing motivation to cultivate a more compassionate relationship with oneself We also discuss some common mistakes in clinical work with highly self-critical patients, such as applying Self-Compassion techniques prematurely or confronting self-criticism without sufficient security in the therapeutic relationship. Compassion is not something we impose on the patient. Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) often emerges when we develop a deep understanding of suffering, history, and the protective strategies the mind has built throughout life.
