Frêney 1961 is not just the story of two teams who joined forces to attempt a previously unclimbed mountain route, but much more. Frêney 1961 is a collection of voices and stories, of bivouacs and ropes, of shelters and rescue operations, of journalists and accusers, of envy and resentment. A truly dark page in the history of mountaineering, which attracted the attention of the public, who became, for the first time, participants in its deadly risks. The media followed the unfolding events live for the first time. Controversies ensued, some still unresolved after more than 70 years, regarding the responsibility of the climbers and the actions of the rescuers.
