This is what it really looks like to leave everything behind and start over in a Vietnamese city at 34. In this video, you'll follow me on the day I left my farming village in the Red River Delta and moved to Hanoi to live with my mother. You'll see the rice fields at the start of a new planting season, the family home my parents built in 1993, and the altar where I said goodbye to my father — who passed away in March 2024. I'll also show you the apartment we share: two people, one 9-square-meter room, and a first meal of sausage and pickled sấu fruit that my mother hadn't had time to prepare for.
