幕末の剣士は何を食べていた?新選組の晩御飯を当時のレシピ通りに再現してみた

"Rekimeshi," or "Historical Recreation Meals," recreates historical food cultures in the modern age. Today, we've recreated the dinner of the Shinsengumi. Commander Kondo Isami, Vice-Commander Hijikata Toshizo, and First Division Captain Okita Soji. The Shinsengumi, responsible for maintaining order in Kyoto during the Bakumatsu period, lived and worked together at their headquarters in Mibu and at Nishi Honganji Temple. The Shinsengumi's meals were said to be relatively well-off compared to other groups of ronin, thanks to the support of the Aizu Domain, which was the Kyoto Shugoshoku (Kyoto Guardian). They were provided with meals such as white rice, fish, and simmered dishes, sufficient to withstand physically demanding work. Commander Kondo Isami's nutritious menu. The simple yet ingenious meals of the fearsome Vice-Commander Hijikata Toshizo. And the gentle menu of Okita Soji, who battled illness. Wouldn't you like to take a peek at the lives of the Shinsengumi who lived in Kyoto during the late Edo period, through the unique dining experiences of three individuals—aspects not often depicted in history textbooks?
