Today's adventure takes us to the incredible Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park in beautiful Orange County, California. Known for its outstanding network of hiking, trail running, and mountain biking trails, this coastal wilderness offers everything from smooth beginner-friendly climbs to exciting descents—all surrounded by rolling coastal hills and breathtaking ocean views. This ride is one of the most scenic sunset cruises you'll find anywhere in Southern California. We'll roll out on Wood Canyon Trail, gradually climbing toward West Ridge, where we're rewarded with spectacular panoramic views overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Laguna Beach, and the surrounding coastline. As the sun begins to dip toward the horizon, the golden light transforms the landscape into something truly unforgettable. Once we soak in those incredible views, it's time for the fun part! We'll point the bikes downhill and let gravity take over as we rip down Mathis Canyon Trail. This descent is fast, flowing, and guaranteed to put a huge smile on your face. It's one of those trails that's exciting enough to keep experienced riders grinning while still remaining approachable for beginner and intermediate mountain bikers looking to build confidence. Hold on tight, stay loose, and enjoy one of Orange County's classic descents! Today's ride covers approximately 9 miles with about 900 feet of total elevation gain. The climb from the trailhead up Wood Canyon to the top of West Ridge comes in at roughly 5.5 miles with nearly 800 feet of climbing, making it a manageable ride with a fantastic payoff. The gradual ascent is well worth every pedal stroke once the ocean comes into view and the downhill begins.
