Beyond Bean Peaks! | MTB Wolverton Mountain in Prescott AZ | Big FLOW Big VIEWS and a SKUNK!

Welcome back to another episode of Where U BEANS!?, the mountain biking channel where I travel across the Southwest in search of the best singletrack, epic views, hidden gems, technical features, and flowing descents that make every ride an adventure! Today we're heading back to Prescott, Arizona, a mountain biking destination that often gets overshadowed by the popularity of Bean Peaks. Don't get me wrong—I love Bean Peaks as much as anyone—but Prescott has so much more to offer riders willing to explore beyond the usual routes. With hundreds of miles of interconnected trails, towering pines, granite boulders, and cool mountain air, Prescott is one of Arizona's premier mountain biking destinations, and today's ride is proof that some of the area's best trails aren't always the most talked about. This ride takes us up Wolverton Trail, a fantastic blue-rated trail that blends smooth flow with just enough chunk to keep things interesting. The full Wolverton Trail is approximately 5.2 miles long with around 1,400 feet of climbing, making it an excellent challenge for intermediate riders looking to improve their fitness while enjoying a rewarding descent. For today's adventure, I parked at the Bean Peak Trailhead, crossed Highway 89, and headed straight for Wolverton. To add a little extra climbing and an even bigger payoff on the descent, I connected Aspen Creek Trail near the top before dropping back down. The final ride totaled 11.7 miles with just over 1,600 feet of elevation gain, delivering a perfect mix of endurance climbing, scenic views, and fast-flowing downhill fun. One of the things I love most about Wolverton is its versatility. The trail offers plenty of flow, sweeping turns, and smooth sections that allow you to carry speed, while scattered rocky features and technical sections keep you engaged from start to finish. It's challenging enough to be exciting but approachable enough for many intermediate riders looking to step up their game. Of course, mountain biking adventures don't always go according to plan. As you'll see in this video, I found myself in an unexpected standoff with a skunk on the trail! Wildlife encounters are always part of the experience when riding Arizona's backcountry, but this was definitely a first for me. Honestly, I had no idea what the right move was in the moment. What would you have done? Let me know in the comments because I'm genuinely curious how other riders would have handled that situation! If you're planning a mountain biking trip to Prescott, make sure you look beyond the usual trail recommendations. Wolverton, Aspen Creek, and many of the surrounding trails showcase just how diverse and rewarding Prescott's trail network can be. There is far more here than just Bean Peaks, and that's exactly why I keep coming back.
