Norfolk & Western 611: Taking it Easy at Spencer, NC!
On November 1st, 2020 and May 2nd, 2021, the North Carolina Transportation Museum fired up the Norfolk & Western 611 for Caboose rides, but also for enthusiasts to experience themselves behind the throttle of 611 for a half an hour per session. The ride starts at the museum’s servicing yard and travels through the greenery to the yard limit beyond the Mesimore track switch, and then reverses to the yard. The end of the video showcases a tour of 611’s cab and me blowing her whistle on September 20th, 2020. I was very grateful to experience this before she was moved to the Strasburg Railroad the following year, where it remains currently.
