How N&W 611 Became an Icon of Steam

Coal and big articulated locomotives are just a few things the Norfolk & Western Railway was known for. Today, the N&W is part of Norfolk Southern, and one particular locomotive has been an iconic representative of its fallen flag, N&W J Class 611. "The Queen of Steam" or "Spirit of Roanoke" as its been known, has had quite the career. From hauling premiere passenger trains through the mountains and plains to putting on a show for railfans as an excursion star. The lone surviving N&W J Class has plenty of stories to be told today.
