RESTORATION OF NYCN’S LEGITIMACY BY COURT: FORUM OF STATE CHAIRMEN ADVOCATES PEACE AND UNITY
RESTORATION OF NYCN’S LEGITIMACY BY COURT: FORUM OF STATE CHAIRMEN ADVOCATES PEACE AND UNITY The Forum of State Chairmen of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, has called for peace among all stakeholders of the Youth Council following the recent judgment of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which restored the legal status of NYCN at the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC. Speaking on behalf of the Forum during the National Thanksgiving Service of NYCN in Port Harcourt to celebrate the court verdict, the Public Relations Officer, Amb. Kokoriko Ebikibina Raphael, said the judgment marks a turning point towards sustainable peace, reconciliation, and progress in the National Youth Council. Amb. Kokoriko, who also serves as the Chairman of the Bayelsa State Chapter of NYCN, described the legal suit that challenged NYCN’s legitimacy as an unnecessary distraction that ought not to have been instituted in the first place. He noted that it was regrettable the period of the litigation stalled youth-oriented programmes of the Youth Council and weakened the collective voice of Nigerian youths at national and international platforms. Amb. Kokoriko said the Forum calls on all aggrieved stakeholders to sheath their swords, put aside personal differences, and rally behind the Sukubo-led National Executive Committee to reposition the Youth Council for greater impact. "We must prioritize the interest of Nigerian youths above individual ambitions. The time for division is over. The time to build is now," Kokoriko stated. He further reaffirmed the unwavering support and loyalty of the Forum of State Chairmen to the Sukubo-led National Executive Committee of NYCN, pledging to work together to take the Youth Council to enviable heights. Also speaking, the Rivers State Chairman of the NYCN and Chief of Staff of the Forum Amb. Ambrose Sopuruchi Okpor said with the conclusion of the litigation, Nigerian youths should expect impactful and life-changing programmes from the Sukubo-led National Executive Committee. He added that the Forum of State Chairmen would provide the needed support and strategic collaboration with the national leadership to drive development and empowerment programmes for the youth constituency at the sub-national levels. "We are ready to domesticate the blueprint of the national body in all 36 states and the FCT. Our focus now is to develop the youth constituency, create opportunities, drive empowerment, and make visible impact in the lives of young people across the country," Ambrose stated. The National Thanksgiving Service attracted the 36 State Executives of NYCN, including the FCT, members of the Forum of State Chairmen, the Board of Trustees, and other dignitaries from across the country.
