Khyber Laps & Getting Cliffed Out!

February 24th. We’re catching the tail end of a storm cycle that delivered nearly 50cm of fresh snow—and to top it off, a perfect bluebird day. Day off work, sunshine overhead… the stars have aligned. Time to go get it. The previous days brought intense winds, keeping the alpine closed. So when it finally opened, it wasn’t just last night’s snowfall waiting—it was a full buildup from the day before as well. Expectations were high. For the mission, I brought out my go-to: the Lib Tech Orca (159cm). It’s my favourite board for weaving through the trees and hunting for powder stashes. The snow was deep and dense. The first lap delivered the best conditions—colder temps kept things light and fast. As the day warmed up, the snow got heavier and noticeably slower. That first run through Khyber’s was unreal—untouched lines and all-time conditions. Lap two was still solid, but in the hunt for fresh snow, I pushed a little too far left and ended up cliffed out… Normally I wouldn’t think twice about dropping those cliffs—they’re not huge—but the snowpack down low was still unconsolidated, with plenty of hazards lurking underneath. Riding solo, it wasn’t worth the risk. By lap three, most of Khyber had been tracked out, and the snow had turned pretty sluggish. Still, it was a bonus lap—and honestly, you can’t beat a sunny day in the trees. That’s what it’s all about. Thanks for watching!
