Title: Types of Antigen Presentation Description: Description of the types of antigen presentation. Sirera Pérez, R. (2016). Types of Antigen Presentation. https://riunet.upv.es/handle/10251/66287 DER Automatic description: In this video, a professor from the university's biotechnology department addresses the types of antigen presentation and how they impact an individual's health. The process of antigen presentation of extracellular pathogens is detailed, which involves phagocytosis and the formation of phagolysosomes for the inactivation and degradation of the antigen. These generate peptides that bind to the major histocompatibility complex type 2 (MHC-II) and are displayed on the cell surface for interaction with CD4 helper lymphocytes. On the other hand, intracellular antigen presentation is described, with ubiquitin-tagged proteins degraded by the proteasome into peptides that bind to MHC class I (MHC-I) on the endoplasmic reticulum. These MHC-I complexes are presented on the cell surface and are essential for the activation of CD8+ cytotoxic lymphocytes, which destroy infected or abnormal cells. The video also explains the process of cross-presentation, where peptides from phagolysosomes can reach the cytosol and integrate with MHC-I via the endoplasmic reticulum, activating cytotoxic lymphocytes. Furthermore, it highlights the importance of costimulatory molecules in immune activation and the differentiation between immature and effector cells. The summary concludes by highlighting antigen presentation for CD8 lymphocytes via MHC-I and for CD4 helper lymphocytes via MHC-II, as well as the mechanism of cytotoxic T lymphocyte activation through cross-presentation.
