Muscle spindles and golgi tendon organs supply the brain with the sensor data that allow it to determine what level of strength is appropriate for each situation. Stories of hysterical strength in which mothers lift cars off their children are examples of these protective mechanisms being overridden, allowing the body temporary full access to the individuals strength capacity.
