In other words, that means choosing an exercise and bashing out a high number of reps in a short period of time and doing this every day (or at least 4+ days a week). Using daily reps like this has helped me to build a lot of muscle in specific areas, very quickly. It’s also helped a number of other people I’ve trained and worked with to do the same. And this makes sense: every time you hit the same area again, you’re flooding the area with blood and nutrients, you’re increasing protein synthesis, and you’re greasing the groove to develop more strength. There are a few reasons we tend not to do this, though. One is recovery: doesn’t training the same area every day cause too much breakdown and fatigue? Won’t it cause injury? Well, that all depends on the type of movements you’re using. For training with daily reps, I recommend choosing closed-chain movements, mainly bodyweight, and lower-weight/higher-rep. That means things like high rep push ups, bodyweight rows, air squats, goblet curls… This type of training causes minimum muscle damage and doesn’t need as long to recover - especially if you train in a “concentric only” manner. This type of training also goes easier on the nervous system and it fits in easily around your routine. Ultimately, though, the best way to convince you is to encourage you to have a go at this yourself. Choose a simple bodyweight movement, perform it for high reps, and do this daily. Give it a month or two and see how it can smash plateaus and build muscle! Have you tried daily reps? Let me know!
