Leo Igwe: Witch Hunts, Misogyny and Enlightenment in Black Communities

Nigerian human rights activist, Leo Igwe, is a renowned campaigner against witchcraft accusations. Speaking to London Black Atheists and the Central London Humanist Group, this lecture focusses on the harmful effects of the belief in witchcraft on individuals and society. Witchcraft belief is rampant in many countries, and has led to violent assaults and murder. In the UK, the murder of 15 year old Kristy Bamu and 8 year old Victoria Climbie, were widely reported in the British media. Leo Igwe asks 'What role does religion play in Witchcraft belief and how do we combat it?' 'Can enlightenment combat the malign effects of witchcraft belief in black and minority ethnic communities worldwide?' Following his acclaimed presentation in 2013 to London Black Atheists, 'Breaking the Taboo of Atheism in Black Communities', Leo Igwe delivers a startling analysis of Witchcraft belief and the imperative of enlightenment.
