The accused had fled to Bihar and was reportedly hiding near the Indo-Nepal border, but sustained surveillance and multiple raids by the police eventually led to his arrest. The case dates back to May 17, 2026, when an e-FIR was registered at Raj Park Police Station following the theft of valuable gold and silver jewellery from a house. Considering the seriousness of the crime, the investigation was transferred to the Anti Snatching & Burglary Cell of the Outer District. A special team led by Inspector Ritesh Raj under the supervision of ACP Operations Virender Dalal was formed to trace the culprit. Using a combination of technical surveillance, field intelligence, and continuous raids, investigators identified the accused as Deepak Sharma (29), a resident of Sitamarhi, Bihar. Police teams carried out extensive searches across several locations in Bihar, including areas along the Indo-Nepal border. They also questioned the accused's family members and associates while keeping a close watch on his possible hideouts. At one stage, police received specific information about Deepak Sharma's presence near the Nepal border and immediately launched a raid. However, he managed to escape before the team arrived. Refusing to give up, investigators continued gathering intelligence and launched another round of operations in Delhi and Bihar. Their efforts finally paid off on July 3, 2026, when Deepak Sharma was successfully arrested. During sustained interrogation, the accused confessed to his role in the theft. Police also invoked legal provisions related to criminal conspiracy as the investigation suggested the possibility of a larger plan behind the crime. Based on the accused's disclosure, police recovered stolen jewellery worth approximately ₹1 crore. The recovery included a large collection of precious ornaments made of gold, silver, and diamonds. Among the seized items were eight gold bangles, two gold mangalsutras, five gold rings, one diamond ring, two gold chains, two pairs of gold tops, one gold maang tikka, three gold lockets, one gold necklace, four pairs of gold and diamond earrings, one single diamond earring, one diamond locket, one gold chain hook, two pairs of silver anklets, one silver spoon, five pairs of silver children's bangles, one silver children's kamarband, one silver bracelet, three silver lockets, several additional gold chains, gold lockets, gold earrings, two more gold rings, one gold bracelet, and another gold maang tikka. Delhi Police said all the recovered jewellery has been seized following due legal procedure. Investigators are also examining whether the accused acted alone or had accomplices, which is why charges relating to criminal conspiracy have been added to the case. The operation is being viewed as a major success for the Outer District Anti Snatching & Burglary Cell. Through sustained technical surveillance, intelligence gathering, and coordinated raids across multiple states, Delhi Police not only solved the high-value theft but also recovered the victim's valuable belongings. Further investigation is underway to determine whether Deepak Sharma is linked to a larger interstate burglary network.
