Racing to Rebuild Our Fish Wheel Before the Salmon Arrive | Subsistence Homesteading in Alaska

Last year we scrapped togeher the parts for a fish wheel, getting it in the water at the tail end of the run. This year, that fish wheel broke loose shortly after launching and left us without a wheel right at the start of season. We made the 12 hour trip to town and back for supplies, hauled it down to the river, and got to work building another one. We are on day 2 of the build - pontoons and rigging - and if all goes to plan, will be launching a new wheel in the river in the next couple days.
