How to Harvest Shiitake Mushrooms
This is a great video on how to harvest home grown shiitake mushrooms. This is a great way to have your own mushrooms all year long! Steps: 1. The logs in the video were innoculated with mushroom spores. You can see our previous video on how to do that. 2. Thump your logs to "wake them up." Thump on one side. 3. Soak them in rain water that is about 5 inches deep. 4. Let them soak for 24 hours. 5. Take them out and stand them up right. 6. Let them dry out. 7. In about 10 days when the logs are dry cut your mushrooms off. Try to get as close to the log as possible. 8. After you pick the mushrooms let the log rest for 4 weeks. Then you can repeat the process. *You can harvest the same log about 4 times a year. The average life of the log is about 4-5 years. Good luck & enjoy!
