What makes a good Pendulum Squat Machine?
There are a few key features that can really make a Pendulum Squat Machine nice to use. In this video we'll focus on the Counterweight and the Loading Options. Counterweight - If the counterweight is modifiable and appropriate then it can really help improve the resistance profile on the machine. Loading Options - If you can load the weight plates closer to the axis (and the user) then you can reduce the inertial effects in the exercise and greatly improve the feel of the machine. I believe some companies put plates further away from the axis so that you don't need to load as many plates on the machine. I'd rather have those loaded closer and just use skinny plates so that I can reduce the inertial effects. Other factors such as an adjustable footplate and options to load bands can also be valuable. This Paramount Pendulum Squat Machine has a counterweight that you can actually modify on the machine, so you can decide how much assistance you want coming out of the bottom of the squat. Other brands such as Prime and Citadel also offer this. Some companies use their own counterweight which you can't add your own plates onto - Examples include Watson and Atlantis. Then others have no counterweight at all, for example Gymleco and Verve - These ones are unlikely to feel great for people with Patellofemoral Joint issues.
