Amidst the thousands of congregants thronging the school grounds, hundreds of new faces came not just to attend religious studies but to take the first step in deepening their spiritual path through the Baiatan (invocation) of the Syadziliyah Order. A total of 2,700 congregants attended the 18th Baiatan (invocation) of the Syadziliyah Order at the school. During the ceremony, Mursyid Agus M. Rikza Amiq, one of the caretakers of the Bambu Runcing Parakan Islamic Boarding School in Temanggung, Central Java, personally swore in the oath of allegiance to 250 new participants. The baiat ceremony was simple and took only about 15 minutes. However, for the participants, that brief moment marked the beginning of a spiritual journey that connected their practices to the chain of knowledge that traces back to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Starting with a Zikir Assembly, Determined to Follow the Sufi Order One participant from Watulimo District, Murdiyanto, admitted that he didn't make the decision suddenly. He had been regularly attending the Zikir assembly in his village before finally deciding to join the Syadziliyah Sufi Order. "We've been attending the Zikir assembly for a long time. Over time, a desire arose for our practices to have a clear chain of succession through a spiritual guide," said Murdiyanto. He believes that the practices of the Syadziliyah Sufi Order are easy to implement in everyday life, allowing even ordinary people to carry them out without feeling burdened. "The practices are simple and not burdensome. That's what attracts many people," he added. Congregation from Various Regions Fills Darussalam Islamic Boarding School Congregations from various regions began arriving at the location at 10:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time. They registered, then filled the main mosque and the courtyard of the pondok to participate in a series of activities. After performing the mujahadah (religious gathering) and congregational Dhuhr prayer, Gus Rikza delivered a sermon before leading the mass bai'at (pledge of allegiance). The Head of the Haul and Bai'atan Committee for the Syadziliyah Congregation, Muhsam Baidhowi, stated that this year's community enthusiasm had increased significantly. "A total of 2,700 congregants attended, and 250 new participants officially received their bai'at today," he said. According to Muhsam, the event attracted more than just the Trenggalek community. Congregants also came from Tulungagung, Malang, several areas in Central Java, and even from West Sumatra and Bali. "Some groups arrived several days before the event began," he explained. He also expressed his appreciation for all the committee members, donors, and congregants who worked together to make the event a success. Gus Afif: Bai'at Guides the Community to Practice Islam Completely The caretaker of the Darussalam Jajar Islamic Boarding School, KH Afifuddin Yunus, emphasized that the Bai'at is not just an annual event. According to him, the activity serves as a means of guiding the community to practice Islamic teachings in their entirety. Gus Afif explained that sharia and Sufism should not be seen as opposing viewpoints. In fact, they complement each other in shaping a well-rounded Muslim. "This Bai'at guides the community to practice Islam completely. Sharia purifies the external, while Sufism purifies the internal," he said. He also reminded that all the Muktabarah Sufi orders share the same goal: to bring people closer to Allah SWT. "All Sufi orders lead to Allah. The only difference is the method and manner of dhikr," Gus Afif emphasized. Musafahah Closes the Bai'at Series The committee concluded the entire series of activities at around 2:00 p.m. WIB with a collective prayer. Afterward, thousands of congregants lined up to perform the musafahah, or shake hands with the spiritual leader, concluding the event. For some, this activity may simply seem like religious tourism. However, for the 250 participants who had just received their oath of allegiance, this moment marked the beginning of a long journey to strengthen their worship, maintain their steadfastness, and draw closer to Allah SWT.
