We targeted mackerel at Minami Ashiyahama in Ashiya City, Hyogo Prefecture. Our fishing guide was Yu Kitamura from Fishing Max Ashiya store. Our first spot was the western stone pavement of Minami Ashiyahama. This spot has a proven track record for both sabiki fishing and float fishing for black sea bream. Recently, 30cm class mackerel have been caught using sabiki fishing! So, we cast our sabiki rigs about 30 meters. As the mackerel school approached, the large float disappeared underwater, followed by the powerful, distinctive pull of a mackerel. What appeared was a nice 25cm class mackerel. Mackerel over 30cm caught from the shore around here are called "Ashiya's extra-large mackerel" and are very popular with anglers. The sudden bite, the powerful pull, and the repeated double catches of 25cm class mackerel made for a very exciting experience. Next, we moved to the north-facing seawall of Minami Ashiyahama, "Canal Park." Here too, the float disappeared underwater, followed by a powerful pull. Will we see the massive 30cm+ mackerel from Ashiya?!
